Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a “Clean India” drive and mission that aims to maintain the country’s roads, highways and infrastructural cleanliness from north to south and from east to west coasts.
Our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi officially launched this mission on 2nd October 2014 at Gandhiji’s Samadhi at Rajghat, New Delhi.
The mission was launched in a national campaign to liberate Gandhiji’s vision. At the start of the campaign, the Prime Minister himself cleared a few paved roads to commemorate the example of cleanliness set by the “Father of the Nation”.

This unique cleaning campaign involves the massive participation of 3 million government employees as well as school and college students.
At the beginning of the program, P.M. He called on his countrymen to take part in a clean-up operation around their homes and make the event meaningful.
First, he nominated nine prominent people to take part in the cleanup program. The nine-member group then called on another group of nine to continue the program.
This activity continued until every Indian in every corner of our country, irrespective of caste and creed, accepted this message and helped turn the program into a national mission.
For people living below the poverty line, the program planned various steps to facilitate the construction of tree branches in every house, construction of sanitary latrines, conversion of dry latrines into low-cost sanitary latrines, hand pumping, safe and bathing facilities, construction and drainage. Raising health and education awareness and related activities.
Earlier, similar awareness programs like Total Sanitation Campaign, Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, etc. were launched by the Government of India to ensure environmental sanitation and personal hygiene.
However, they did not show the necessary amount of encouragement. The current campaign has also been actively called for the participation of the private sector to ensure a satisfactory level of performance.
