“Children are the most beautiful flowers” – Almost all of us have read Oscar Wilde’s famous line. In fact, children are Allah’s most beautiful creation and need to be nurtured with care and attention.

Child labour means the employment of children under the age of 18 in various jobs including domestic work, industry and other sectors.

Such a system has been in vogue in most countries of the world for a long time. Various efforts have been made to reduce child labour. However, it still exists in public view or in disguise.

Childhood is the main time of life. But unfortunately, these children are forced to earn for themselves and their families at a tender age. As a result, they are unable to enjoy life.

These children are victims of physical, emotional, social and psychological dangers. Sometimes they have to work in such unhealthy and stressful situations that they suffer from a number of diseases.

Children Employing

Earlier, children were employed in chimney sweeps and gas blowing factories. Children work in furnaces in extreme heat. Children also work in furnaces in other repressive situations. Sometimes, they also have to work as mortgage workers on houses, farms and farms. Cash crops like tea, coffee, cocoa, rubber, etc. are grown where a large number of children are engaged in tree planting. According to the 1981 census, children constitute 6% of the total labour force in India. However, compared to other developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, India has a lower proportion of child labour than the total labour force.

The main cause of child labour is poverty. Poor parents send their children to work for some extra income to support the household. These children are paid very low wages. But it still helps them to supplement their parents’ income. Such parents are very poor. For that their parents send them to work in different places for a small amount of money. Small industries employ children instead of adults to reduce production costs.

The Government of India’s Step About Child Labour

The Government of India announced the National Policy on Child Labor in 1991 on the basis of the report of a committee headed by Shri M.S. Gurupadaswamy. In addition to recommending the abolition of child labour, some reforms were suggested.

Some such measures were as follows

1. Establishing free schools with food provisions will not only keep children away from labour but will also provide them with the guidance they need to shape their future.

2. Providing financial assistance and subsidies to poor families.

3. Establish agencies to address this problem.

4. The Government of India imposed a ban on child labour on October 10, 2006, by enacting a law banning the employment of children at home or in business, including factories, shops, hotels, restaurants, resorts, etc.

Child labour has a detrimental effect not only on the children concerned but also on society as a whole. Children are not only deprived of their right to education but also their physical and mental development is hampered.
