Rabindranath Tagore Short Biography pdf in English
Rabindranath Tagore was the greatest poet of all times. He was born on May 7, 1861, at Jorasanko in Kolkata. His father’s name was Maharshi Debendra Nath and his mother’s name was Sarada Devi.
He came of a rich and cultured family. He got his early education at Oriental seminary for a brief period. But he did not continue his School education. Later he studied at home.
He was a born poet. He wrote poems at an early age and later composed songs and paintings. He also wrote novels and short stories. His famous books are Naivedya, Sonar Tari, Chitra, Chaitali and Gitanjali.
He won many awards. He got the Nobel prize for his book Gitanjali in 1913. Besides he got Knighthood. But he turned down the Knighthood in protest of the Jaliwanwalabagh killings. He founded Visva – Bharati at Santiniketan in Birbhum. He was a many-sided genius. He died on August 7, 1941.
